Client privacy is very important to us. In fact, privacy takes a back seat to only one other topic: security. There's an important step for you to take where these two items meet.

Say we receive a suspicious phone call or e-mail referencing your account, or we have concerns about a client's well being. If we develop concerns about a client, we would want to alert a trusted family member as soon as possible. However, we can't do so without violating our duty to protect client privacy. Even if we know your friends or family personally, Midway Capital is not permitted to discuss client matters without express permission from clients.

That is why this month's tip is actually a request: Grant us express permission now so that we can contact a trusted friend or family member in the event of an emergency. This is very easy to do when you log into your account at Schwab:

1) Go to client.schwab.com and log in as usual2) Click on "Profile" in the top right corner, and then click on "Trusted Contact"3) Follow the on-screen prompts to add a trusted contact or two. These individuals must be at least 18 years old. Each account holder -- both spouses for a married couple -- must add a trusted contact individually.

Note: This can't be done in the Schwab app, but you can log in using the web browser on your phone or tablet. In this case, click "Menu" on the left side, then "Profile." Trusted Contact is the second option under the Profile menu.

Your trusted contact won't be able to transact on your behalf. Their purpose is to field questions or concerns from us and to take appropriate action if warranted.

We hope to never speak with your trusted contact in an official capacity, but if it becomes necessary, their assistance may prove critically important to your safety and security.
